Iron Workers
Applications for Iron Workers apprenticeships are accepted three times per year in person during an orientation session. Selection under this program is made on the basis of qualifications alone and all applicants will be afforded equal opportunity under these standards without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, sex or physical handicaps (except to the extent that such physical handicaps affect the applicants qualifications for the trade). Applicants must take and meet minimum requirements of the Accuplacer aptitude exam. The Accuplacer reading comprehension section must have a minimum score of 66 and the arithmetic section must have a minimum score of 55. Applicants may also use the ACT Test with a minimum score of 15 points or higher instead of the Accuplacer. Qualified applicants are then scheduled for an oral interview with the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Applicants are scored on both the Accuplacer or ACT Test score and interview. Qualified applicants are placed on a waiting list ranked according to their score. Qualified applicants are offered apprenticeships on an as needed basis. Minimum requirements: 18 years old or older at the date of the application, able to perform the work of the trade, high school diploma or GED, pre-employment drug screen required.
