A UBC Apprentice learns a valuable career that combines classroom and hands-on training with on-the-job experience. Applicants must be at least 17 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, must be physically capable of performing work, must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, and must pass the math assessment with a 70% or higher. The apprentice program takes about four years to complete with a minimum of 5,840 paid hours of work experience and 560 school hours. First year apprentices start at 60% of Journeyman wage scale. Benefits may include health insurance, pension contributions and vacation funds.
