What
is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeship
programs are a combination of on-the-job training, supervised
by highly skilled workers on a job site, and related classroom
instruction. Classroom instruction includes courses such
as blueprint reading, mathematics and science. Wisconsin
is the only state in the country that requires employers
to pay apprentices for part of their classroom instruction
as well as their on-the-job training.
Qualifications
for Apprenticeship Candidates
AGE:
Candidates musty be at least 18 years old.
HEALTH:
Individuals must be physically fit, with a generally good
medical history.
EDUCATION:
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Some trades require high school level Algebra.
TESTING:
Most trades require applicants to pass an aptitude test
before starting an apprenticeship.
LICENSE:
The trades require a valid driver's license and/or reliable
transportation to work or school.
How Can TPST Prepare You for an Apprenticeship?
We
give you information on the work involved in each trade,
along with the application procedure to get in.
We
assess your skill level to determine what help you will
need to get into an apprenticeship.
We
provide you with classes and tutoring sessions to improve
your skills in math, science, grammar, mechanical comprehension
and spatial relations and even help you with personal financial
skills.
We
introduce you to people in the industry who will give you
information about life in the skilled trades. How Do You
