Work Description
Sprinkler Fitter are
pipe fitter specialists who have been schooled and trained
in the installation of fire protection systems.

fitter specialists who have been schooled and trained in the
installation of fire protection systems.

How long is
the training?
The Apprenticeship Program is a
five-year on the job training program along with a 19 course
Related Training correspondence study through Penn State
University. The courses begin after a six month
probationary period.
How much is
the pay?
The starting wage is 45% of the
Journeyman wage for your state with a 5% increase every six
months provided both job performance is satisfactory and the
Related Training courses are up to date. If you have some
prior experience or related training, you could get "Prior
Experience Credit" which could increase your starting rate
of pay.
Am I
eligible for Veterans Benefits?
If you think you might be
eligible, contact your local Veterans Administration
Office. Apprenticeship training can be applied to your GI
Bill. We also have staff at the apprenticeship office that
can assist with Veteran Benefits.
Does the
training cost me anything?
There is no out of pocket cost
for the training.
Is
there any travel with the job?
Yes, you could be required to
travel to a job site and possibly stay overnight so you must
be prepared to be away from home for periods of time. You
will receive financial compensation for travel expenses.
What makes
this a good job for me?
A rewarding future with high
pay, medical insurance and one of the best pension plans in
the nation are some of the reasons but most of all
sprinklers save lives.
How do I get
into the program?
The minimum
requirements for application are:
1.) At least
18 years of age and a copy of proof of age is required.
2.) A copy of
a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate
at the time of interview.
3.) A copy of
your Military Discharge Form DD-214, If applicable.
4.) Have a
valid driver’s license
5.) Be
able to pass a physical examination and a drug test
Applying for
the Apprenticeship Program
Application is made at an area
contractor. A list can be obtained from the Local 669 Joint
Apprenticeship Training office or your Local 669 Business
Agent. The contractor will explain the interview procedure.
