ROOFERS

ROOFERS

Work Description: Jobs for roofers should be plentiful, demand for roofers is less susceptible to downturns in the economy than other construction trades because the majority of roofing work is repair and reproofing.

A leaky roof can damage ceilings, walls, and furnishings. To protect building and their contents from water damage, roofers repair and install roofs made of tar and gravel, rubber or thermoplastic, shingles, slate, tile, or other materials. Repairing and reproofing replaces old roofs on existing buildings, providing many job opportunities for these workers.

Workings Conditions: Roofing is physically demanding work involving repeated heavy lifting. Applicants must be able to work at heights and be prepared to work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications:

· Must be 18 years of age
· Possess a valid drivers license
· Have reliable transportation to the continuing changes of job site locations
· Must have the physical ability to perform the work of the trade

There are no pre-test to enter the roofing apprenticeship program. All applicants can obtain employment from any of the training contractors within the roofers apprenticeship program, by filling out an application. A six-month probationary period is required before an applicant is entered in the apprenticeship program.
