ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTORS

Perform construction, modernization, service and repair on various types of elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and people movers. Work is generally done indoors, and at times may require traveling.

On an as needed basis, the recruitment process involves notices going out to the necessary media, agencies, contractors, etc. with instructions on how to apply to the program.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, pass an entrance exam and sit for an interview. At this time there is a $25.00 fee required in order to sit for the entrance exam.

Apprenticeship lasts a minimum of 4 years with first 6 months as probationary period, and involves on-the-job and a mandatory classroom curriculum thru the full apprenticeship program. Probationary wage is 50% of full wage for first 6 months, then raised to different levels according as advancement thru the program progresses.
