BOILERMAKERS
Boilermakers perform erection, repair and maintenance of
hydroelectric, fossil and nuclear power plants, oil refineries,
chemical plants, paper mills and steel mills. Their skills
include boiler manufacturing and fabricating, steel plate
and structure steerical on, pressure vessel and tank fabrication,
highway construction equipment manufacturing, oil field
equipment manufacturing and other metal fabrication.
Members of the Shipbuilding and Marine Division are employed
at private marine construction and repair facilities, and
naval shipyards and piers.
Applicants must be 18 years of age, physically able to perform
the work, have no fear of heights, provide own transportation
and be willing to travel.
Apprentice candidates apply to the National Apprenticeship
Committee and take an aptitude test. All scores are provided
to local contractors upon request from the local union.
The program is 4 years in length, 6,000 hours on-the-job
training, self-study and classroom training.
